Illustration Friday Theme: (Never) Surrender

Image
This was a posting for the Illustration Friday theme, Surrender. I chose to illustrate it as "Never Surrender" (Winston Churchill). I used as my template, a funerary sculpture photograph, taken by Pamela Williams. I transformed the woman into an older, and slightly more intimidating creature, than that of the original.

This posting is called Nature Stirs. The painting was done in oil, and digitally as well. It refers to the stirring of Mother Nature, and some of her manifestations - clouds and dust.

Illustration Friday Theme: Warning

Image
This is my posting for the Illustration Friday Warning theme. I chose a retro Mad Men-type scenario and decor. There is clearly tension in the room; the woman in the centre is highly suspicious of the one closest to us.

Illustration Friday Theme: Layers

Image
This is my posting for the Illustration Friday Layers theme. This painting portrays Sufism; a mystical sect of Islam otherwise known as the Whirling Dervishes . They are influenced by other religions as well, including Buddhism. Their ceremonial dance (and trance) is meant to represent a mystical journey through the layers of the mind and love, to the Perfect . I have also designed the painting as a physically layered image.

This posture is supposed to promote health benefits such as the release of tension in your shoulders and overall body. The pressure from your hands promotes a straightening of the spine. It also opens your shoulder joints.
