This is my posting for the Illustration Friday theme, Totem. Totem is defined as a natural object or animal believed by a society to have spiritual significance, and adopted by it as an emblem. Crane mythology has a long history in many cultures (particularly in Asia) as symbolic of happiness and eternal youth. In Japan, the crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures, and symbolizes good fortune and longevity. It has a fabled lifespan of a thousand years. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. After WWII, the crane came to symbolize peace and the innocent victims of war.
Hi Allison, I have to admit that this work is that I understand very little
ReplyDeleteanyway, is always an adventure to watch your creations, I say adventure, in a sense of "discovery"
It is not bad that the viewer does not understand the work, no,
from my point of view, increases the desire to keep watching.
Very good job, congratulations!
Hi Roberto,
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it! I know that this isn't the most linear of images. I have another version that is more straightforward; but I chose this one simply because I preferred the arrangement of colours and shapes.
The subject is bounce, and the dictionary definition says that it comes from a word meaning thump. It also means to spring forward, or leap. There is a rabbit in the movie Bambi, called Thumper. There are two rabbits in my image, and the one at the top is bounding off the page. The eggs are loosely connected to the Easter bunny.
